Pilot Synopsis

The series pilot opens with a bang: Judge Kimble, freshly minted as State City’s Supreme Court Judge, finds himself in the middle of a political firestorm. His first high-profile case hasn’t even cooled, and it’s already spiraling out of control. It starts when Marsha Owens, Kimble’s trusted Judicial Assistant, lets slip a seemingly innocent comment while out on a date. By dawn, her words are splashed across the front page—and now the story’s burning its way through every news channel in the city.

As sunrise crawls over the courthouse, Chief of Staff Fred Kramer is in a panic. He needs answers fast—before the staff meeting turns into a firing squad. Kramer’s not the only one feeling the pressure. Matt Canley, Kimble’s top advisor and political fixer, is taking heat from City Hall and pushing Kimble to axe Owens before the scandal swallows them both. Meanwhile, Media Relations Officer Angela Baker can barely move without tripping over cameras. Every reporter wants the same thing: a confession, a villain, a headline.

The tension kicks up another notch when Kramer discovers his new assistant isn’t just anybody—it’s his old college rival, Carson Edelman. Kramer wants him gone, but there’s a hitch: Carson is Judge Kimble’s nephew. There’s no easy way to fire family, and City Hall’s patience is wearing thin. Angela and Matt scramble to keep things from boiling over, trading quick fixes while Kramer, gritting his teeth, searches for a way to get Carson out of his hair without detonating another crisis.

Down in the trenches, investigators Eddie and Miranda stumble onto something much bigger—a hint of jury tampering, uncovered after a juror collapses in open court and lands in the hospital. Suddenly, Kimble’s courtroom isn’t just a stage for drama; it’s become a battleground, and the Atkins case is its powder keg.

Kimble faces the hardest decision of his career: protect his staff or give City Hall its sacrificial lamb. Just as the walls feel like they’re closing in, he gets an unexpected call from Mayor Bradley, an old friend with motives of his own. Their conversation will shape not just Kimble’s future—but the fate of State City’s justice system. As the dust settles, one thing is clear: in this city, the real trial is survival.
